Newport Yacht Builders offers a seamless connection between the design of your project and its physical creation. We are able to synthesize our clients’ tastes with a deep understanding of the technical practicalities of marine design to produce functional beauty and beautiful function. By using the latest scanning and 3D modeling technology, our projects move from design concept to production with unmatched efficiency.

Laser scanning in 3D is integral as an origin point for Newport Yacht Builder’s work-flow process. Utilizing Leica 3D scanners, we capture precise dimensions of existing conditions, creating an incredibly accurate point-cloud baseline for all work that follows, from design ideation through to component installation. Whether scanning the hull mold for a new build project or the internal structure of a 90-year-old motor yacht, all of our components are designed and built to maximize the efficient use of space, ease systems access, and fit perfectly, minimizing templating and fitting and increasing project efficiency.

CAD/CAM MANUFACTURING

Working off of our point-cloud baseline, all production design and engineering are done in three dimensions and then directly developed into cutfiles for our in-house CNC machine, assuring perfect translation from design to cut parts. While massively reducing labor hours on the shop floor, this also allows us to maximize use of space (reduce net space) and build our components to a +/- 3mm tolerance to the existing envelope. In-house design handles the creative problem solving; in-house engineering enables a rapid shift to real-world workflow.

yacht carpentry & finish

Machined parts are typically finished and vacuum-bagged with veneers on both sides by Newport Yacht Builder’s craftspeople, melding state-of-the-art production processes with old-world craftsmanship in the traditions of the best of New England yacht building. Whether pursuing a modern aesthetic of multiple textures and finishes, or a classical yacht-style interior, the client can count on our experience and creativity to match their personal vision.
